Materials Science and Engineering
GTU is the first higher education institution offering a program in materials science and engineering in Turkey. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at GTU offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. The department addresses the educational and technological challenges of creating, applying and characterizing new materials for the 21st Century.
There are four main fields of study in the department:
- Physical Metallurgy
- Ceramics
- Electronic Materials
- Polymers
In the department, researches are carried out in such areas as solar power, hydrogen energy, fuel cells, manufacturing and characterization of ceramics, surface modification and coating of metallic materials, bio-materials, electronic applications of ceramics, analysis and synthesis of materials at nano dimensions, thin films and semiconducting technologies.
