NANOSCIENCE AND NANOENGINEERING
Institute of Nanotechnology (GTUNANO), focuses on research and development activities in line with mission and vision of GTU. With this motivation, Nanoscience and Nanoengineering MSc program launched in 2016 by the GTUNANO with the support of departments of Physics, Material Science and Engineering, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Chemistry.
Graduate dissertations are encouraged to be related to industrial applications, as well as in the field of experimental or theoretical research. For this purpose, students who work in the private sector and study for master degree can also work on solving a problem in their firms with thesis studies.
The scientific studies are funded by GTU Scientific Research Fund (BAP), The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), The Ministry of Development (DPT) and international organizations.
Following trend research topics in nanotechnology are being carried out in the laboratories:
- Nanostructured multilayer magnetic materials, electric field control of magnetization, planar Hall effect based biosensors;
- Lithium-ion batteries, Lithium-sulphur batteries, Sodium-ion batteries, Aqueous electrolyte batteries, Electrode materials, Anode, Hydro/Solvothermal Carbonization;
- Development of catalysts for clean fuel applications, fuel cells, biomass valorization, Fischer-Tropsch, surface chemistry of nanoparticles, fluorescent molecules (electron/energy transfer prosesses);
- Electronical, structural and chemical characterizations of solid material surfaces from top layer to 10 nm in UHV conditions and also development of surface;
- Ultra-thin epitaxial, poly crystal and single/multi-layer films;
- Shapeable magnetoelectronics.
