Gebze Technical University Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences (GTÜ-IEMS) was established on October 21, 2014 (Law number: 6562) with an environmental perspective aiming to use sustainably, considering the conservation of the environmental dynamics. The Institute has started the active research in August 2018 after the completed the necessary infrastructure works. The research domain of the institute covers the whole world. For this reason, water resources, including the seas, are the focus of the research carried out at the Institute.
The research domain of the Institute covers the whole earth. However, in the studies carried out at the institute, water resources, including the seas, are the focal point. It is to facilitate understanding of the world and human systems to develop feasible, scientifically based, human-centered solutions to create resilience against natural disasters and to produce sustainable solutions to the most urgent environmental problems of our planet.
