The Department of Chemistry at Gebze Technical University offers state-of-the-art facilities to support high-quality education and advanced research. With a young and dynamic academic staff, the department is dedicated to addressing societal and industrial challenges through practical and impactful solutions, while maintaining a strong commitment to scientific, ethical, and societal values. From 1994 to 2017, the department exclusively offered graduate programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. Since the Fall Semester of the 2017-2018 academic year, it has expanded to include a 100% English undergraduate program.
The department features a robust laboratory infrastructure, including 27 research and development laboratories, 5 instrumental analysis laboratories, and 5 undergraduate laboratories. Research activities in the department cover a wide range of cutting-edge fields such as smart and innovative materials, plant chemistry, biologically active molecules, biotechnology, electrochemistry, energy applications, photodynamic therapy, computational chemistry, drug design, chemical and biological sensors, nanomaterials, and polymer chemistry.
Undergraduate students gain hands-on experience through laboratory courses in inorganic, organic, analytical, physical, and biochemistry, utilizing five dedicated teaching laboratories. Additionally, all research laboratories are actively available for undergraduate graduation projects and postgraduate research activities, providing students with extensive practical experience.
Beyond academic facilities, the GTU campus offers students access to two multipurpose sports halls, an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, football fields, basketball and volleyball courts, a modern and spacious library with study areas, dining facilities, and numerous canteens. Surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, the campus provides an inviting environment for students.
The campus is easily accessible via various public transportation options, including the Marmaray “Fatih-Gebze Technical University” station located within the campus. Furthermore, a partnership with the Ministry of Health enables the provision of free bicycles for students and staff, ensuring eco-friendly and convenient transportation within the campus.
