Gebze Technical University is located in a central location, close to the provinces of Istanbul, Kocaeli, Sakarya and Yalova. Thanks to the Marmaray Station located within the university, transportation from Istanbul to Gebze Technical University can be provided much faster and easier than from the central districts of Kocaeli. The fact that most of the students studying at the university reside in various districts of Istanbul is another indicator of the university's proximity to Istanbul. Gebze Technical University, Health Sciences University headquartered in Istanbul, Teknopol Istanbul Health Technocity, Health Sciences University and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK-MAM), which has been carrying out its research activities in Gebze since 1972, are among the major companies working in bioengineering and related fields. It is one of the most established organizations in terms of carrying out studies together with organizations and training trained manpower to participate in these studies.

It is obvious that our country needs human resources that can work multidisciplinary, follow current developments and think innovatively in order to increase our country's global competitiveness and reduce our foreign dependency. Especially considering its location in the Eastern Marmara Region, Gebze Technical University Bioengineering doctorate program aims to contribute significantly to meeting the current need for trained human resources.
