EXAMINATION, REGULATIONS AND ASSESSMENT

In addition to midterm examinations and other assignments, students are required to take a final examination. The student is given a grade by the course instructor, based on the midterm examinations, final examinations, the semester‘ s work and attendance. All examination results are converted into two lettered scale- AA, BA, BB, etc.

Courses which do not require midterm and / or final examinations are determined by the department concerned, and the Registrar's Office is informed accordingly. Under these circumstances, the semester grade is given by evaluating the work done throughout the semester.

The practical and / or laboratory components may be evaluated separately. In this case, the course and practical and / or laboratory sessions taken separately must confirm to the above regulations.

GRADING SCHEME AND GRADE DISTRIBUTION GUIDANCE

A student who receives a grade of (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), or (CC) in any course will be considered successful. Grades of (DC), (DD), (FD), (VF) will indicate failure. For each course taken, the student is given one of the following grades by the lecturer:

GTU PERCENTAGE GTU GRADE POINTS GTU COURSE GRADE ECTS

85-89 3.5 BA B
80-84 3.0 BB C

60-64 1.0 DD --
50-59 0.5 FD F

D – In Progress/Developing ; P – Passed ; F – Failed

The statements mentioned above are valid for courses continuing more than 1 semester - such as thesis work.

T (Transfer) : Reflects the courses transferred from other universities. The (T) grade is included in computing the Grade Point Average (G.P.A.).

Grade Point Average (G.P.A.): The students have both a Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) and a Cumulative Grade Point Average (C.G.P.A.) that are announced at the end of each semester by the Registrar's Office. The total credit points for a course are obtained by multiplying the grade points by the credit hours. In order to obtain the G.P.A. for any given semester, the total credit points earned in that semester are divided by the total credit hours.

Cumulative Grade Point Averages (C.G.P.A.): The sum of 21 credit points earned from 7 courses that the student has been most successful is divided by 21 credit hours to calculate C.G.P.A.
