Geodetic and Geographic Information Technologies
Encompassing five main scientific fields: geodesy, photogrammetry, surveying, cartography and cadastral surveying, the department of geodetic and photogrammetric engineering was found in 1996 and moved into Cayirova Campus in 2011. The department offers "master’s and doctoral programs" under the Institute of Engineering and Sciences.
Nowadays, engineers need more technical information and technological equipment to solve complex engineering problems. The main goal of the department is to provide a broad theoretical and practical background in the rapidly developing fields of geographical information systems (GIS), remote sensing, global positioning systems (GPS) for new graduates in the geodetic and photogrammetric engineering, geomatics engineerring, computer engineering, city and regional planning, geological engineering departments.
In accordance with GTU’s mission as a university of expertise, the department focuses on research and development activities and supports its education with these activities. In this framework, it is aimed to educate experts who unite theory with practice and to contribute to scientific developments through activities in department laboratories.
Research laboratories of the department are;
- Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems Laboratory
- Photogrammetry Laboratory
- Geodesy Laboratory
- Land Management Laboratory
Equipment of the department laboratories includes GPS instruments, total stations, several leveling instruments, photogrammetric analytical stereo plotters, together with numerous computers and software packages.
