Established in 1994, the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Basic Sciences, Gebze Technical University, began offering an undergraduate program in the 2017–2018 academic year. Since its inception, the department has built a strong academic foundation through its well-established master's and doctoral programs. Guided by scientific, ethical, and social values, our department fosters a dynamic and innovative academic environment with a young, dedicated, and accomplished faculty. Supported by modern and advanced infrastructure, we aim to provide students not only with a solid theoretical foundation but also with the practical skills needed to excel in scientific research.

Our department is home to a distinguished academic team, comprising 19 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors, 7 Lecturers (3 Associate Professors and 4 with PhDs), 23 Research Assistants (4 Associate Professors and 8 with PhDs), 2 Technicians, and 1 Administrative Staff. This dedicated team actively supports students throughout their academic journey, ensuring their growth in both education and research.

The research conducted in our laboratories spans diverse and cutting-edge fields, including smart and innovative materials, heterocyclic compounds, chemical sensors, macrocyclic compounds, boron-based materials, nanomaterials, enzyme immobilization, biotechnology, biodiesel production, computational chemistry, molecular design, adsorption, surface chemistry, electrochemistry, photochemistry, organic/inorganic (opto)electronic materials, conductive and functional polymers, synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and agrochemicals.
