RECOGNITION OF FORMAL EDUCATION

Transfer Students from Other Universities

Prior education of students transferring to GTU bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral programs is recognized according to the relevant regulations of the Higher Education Council and coordinated by the Adaptation Committee. Courses previously taken at other universities are recognized and recorded on the student’s transcript if deemed suitable by the Adaptation Committee for the respective program. These courses appear on the transcript as transfer courses and are indicated with the letter “T.” Courses from which students are exempt are marked with the letter “M” on the transcript.

Foreign Language Exemption

Students who score at least 55 on the YDS English exam or an equivalent score on an exam recognized by ÖSYM are exempt from the English Proficiency Exam. Those who pass the foreign language exam administered by GTU’s Department of Foreign Languages (minimum score: 60/100) are exempt from preparatory language training, and this exemption is noted on their transcript. Students who score between 40 and 60 in the English proficiency exam during the application period and pass the interview exam are eligible to directly start their studies in graduate programs where the medium of instruction is 100% Turkish.

Transfer and exemption procedures are applied in accordance with the GTU Graduate Education and Training Regulations Senate Implementation Principles.

RECOGNITION OF NON-FORMAL AND INFORMAL LEARNING

In Turkey, the process of recognizing non-formal, certificate-based, or experience-based (non-formal and informal) learning outside formal educational institutions is in its initial stages. Therefore, the recognition of prior learning has not yet been fully implemented in all programs at Gebze Technical University.
