The Master's Program in Smart Cities and Transportation Technologies, established with the decision of the YÖK Executive Board, began its academic activities in the 2023-2024 Fall semester and is part of the Transportation Technologies Department under the GTU Graduate School.
The program, structured within the Institute of Transportation Technologies, is conducted as a multidisciplinary graduate education in harmony with the professional disciplines represented by the departments of our university’s Engineering and Architecture Faculties. Faculty members from various departments contribute to the courses and research with their expertise, and PhD-level instructors from other research institutions also participate in teaching and research activities.
The program aims to provide graduate education in the field of smart cities and transportation technologies, focusing on innovative research areas that meet sectoral application needs. It also supports the capacity development of public and private sector representatives in this field.
Main areas of study include:
Smart Cities: Geographic Data Infrastructure and Analytics, Integrated Transportation Data Model and Urban Traffic Management, Big Data Management in Transportation, Urban Mobility Analysis, Accident & Emergency Management, Smart Waste Collection & Management.
Smart Transportation: Intelligent Systems (Smart Parking, Smart Intersections, Smart Stops, Variable Message Signs), Traffic Engineering/Management, Smart Navigation, Smart and Adaptive Lighting, Smart Bicycle Sharing.
Infrastructure and Planning: Sustainable Transportation Planning, Parking Location Planning, Zero Emission Transportation and Air Quality Monitoring, Multi-Criteria and Heuristic Network-Based Facility Location Optimization, Logistics and Public Transport Management.
Autonomous and Next-Generation Vehicles: GPS, Lidar, and Sensor technologies for autonomous vehicles, Artificial Intelligence for autonomous control systems, next-generation and flying vehicles.
