Syllabus ( BTEC 554 )

   Basic information
Course title: Biosensors
Course code: BTEC 554
Lecturer: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Banu BAHŞİ
ECTS credits: 7,5
GTU credits: 3 (3+0+0)
Year, Semester: 1/2, Fall and Spring
Level of course: Second Cycle (Master's)
Type of course: Area Elective
Language of instruction: English
Mode of delivery: Face to face
Pre- and co-requisites: none
Professional practice: No
Purpose of the course: The aim of this course is to teach biosensors, types of biosensors and applications of biosensors. Students learn how to detect small molecules, DNA, proteins and cells with a biosensor in the context of applications in health, food and environmental monitoring. Biosensor approaches such as electrochemistry, acoustics and optics will be taught. Additionally, selective surface chemistry will be emphasized, including methods of biomolecule attachment to transducer surfaces.
   Learning outcomes Up

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Introduction to biosensors, biosensor types and applications, Biomolecular structure and bioselective layers, Types of detections and Mobile/Point of Care biosensors.

    Contribution to Program Outcomes

    1. Biyoteknolojinin kapsamını, temellerini, uygulama alanlarını ve diğer bilim dallarıyla ilişkilerini kavramış olmak
