Purpose of the course: Giving a detailed information about the types, biosynthesis and regulation of bioactive secondary metabolites produced by microorganisms.

  1. Build up knowledge about the types of bioactive secondary metabolites produced by microorganisms.

    5. Understand the applications and basic principles of new instrumentation and/or software vital to his/her thesis projects.

Week 4: Biology of antibiotic-producing microorganisms:
-Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Streptomyces, Streptoverticillium, Actinomycetes (other than Streptomyces), Myxobacteria, Aspergillus, Penicillium
Week 5: Different types of antibiotics and their mode of action
-Macrolide antibiotics
Week 6: Different types of antibiotics and their mode of action
-Poliketide antibiotics
Week 7: Different types of antibiotics and their mode of action
-Aminoglycoside antibiotics
-Beta-lactam antibiotics
